“Marble” 2006

This piece, entitled “Marble,” is a collaging of video I collected. At the time I was very interested in YouTube videos and the comments left by people who watched the entry. In this case it was footage of some of the first atomic bomb tests and I found that the comments were generally very pro-bomb and interested in the technology.

On the sidebar of the YouTube webpage was an ad for a dating website with a short looping video of a young man sitting at his computer staring at his screen (which was in effect my computer screen). He was very bored, lonesome and unhappy looking and the caption read something like, “Ready to meet the woman of your dreams? You can find her at www…” I found it very interesting the disconnection between the massive destruction in the bomb testing video and the calm coolness of this young man sharing the same web space.
